Introduction

The WMB Newsletter Editorial Board is a student-led team (9th - 12th graders) dedicated to spreading the word about musical happenings across the Williamsville district. From writing about Booster-sponsored events to showcasing the achievements of our talented teachers and students, the newsletter serves as a vibrant platform for sharing stories, celebrating successes, and building community through music.

Our Mission

To create a thoughtful, student-driven newsletter that highlights performances, achievements, behind-the-scenes moments, and the rich culture of music education in Williamsville. The newsletter is published bi-monthly starting in October and continues throughout the school year on the WMB website.

Structure & Leadership

• The district-wide editorial board include one elected Editor-in-Chief and one Deputy Editor. 

• The Editor-in-Chief helps guide article assignments, review submissions, and keeps the team on schedule.

• The Deputy Editor supports the Editor-in-Chief with editorial tasks and team coordination.

• A Booster Officer serves as Newsletter Advisor, offering feedback and helping ensure the newsletter aligns with the goals of the Williamsville Music Boosters.

• All members contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive working environment.

Roles & Responsibilities

All Newsletter Board members will:

• Write or edit at least one article every other issue, including both text and photo content

• Do their best to meet internal deadlines to ensure timely publication

• Attend periodic planning meetings (virtual or in-person) to brainstorm and check in on progress

Designated roles include:

• Competition committee chair and co-chair

  • Organize and manage the WMB annual writing competition 

• Digital Media Designer

  • Flyer and other promotional material design using Canva

  • Help build and update webpage using Google Sites

Submission Policy

To help keep the newsletter running smoothly:

• Submissions received after deadline may be moved to the next issue, depending on relevance and space

• The Editor-in-Chief will communicate deadlines clearly and follow up as needed

Sign-Up Expectations

When joining the Newsletter Board, students agree to:

• Support the standards and timelines that help the newsletter stay on track

• Work collaboratively to create a polished final product

• Bring creativity, leadership and community spirit to the team

• Track the hours they spent working on the newsletter for each issue throughout the school year in the Booster's designated workspace

• Receive a volunteer certificate from the Booster organization at the end of the school year, recognizing their total volunteer hours
