Full speech honoring Mr. Matthew Cool by Mrs. Jaime Pitnell:
It’s my great pleasure and honor to stand before you today to recognize someone whose dedication, talent, and leadership have been a cornerstone of our school and community’s musical life for nearly two decades.
For close to 20 summers, Mr. Matthew S. Cool has served as our Summer Music Coordinator and the inspiring Director of our Summer Community Band. With passion, patience, and a baton in hand, he has brought together musicians of all ages and skill levels—creating not just performances, but memories, traditions, and a true sense of community…the soundtrack of our summers.
Mr. Matthew Cool with Ms. Betsy Gengo and Ms. Jaime Pitnell (Right)
Mr. Cool has a remarkable gift—not only for music, but for bringing people together. Year after year, he has built something truly special: a summer program that is more than just notes on a page, but a living, breathing ensemble of friendship, growth, and shared joy. Under his direction, young musicians have sat beside seasoned alumni, parents have played alongside their children, and a stage has been transformed into a space where generations connect through the universal language of music.
Whether rehearsing under the summer sun or leading stirring performances, Mr. Cool has always approached his work with professionalism, creativity, and as many of you have had the privilege to experience - heart. His commitment has not only elevated our musical programs, but has also shaped lives, sparked passion, and nurtured confidence in countless students and community members.
Mr. Matthew Cool (right) and Mr. Matthew Tichy
Many of the performers you see in these seats tonight are former students of Mr. Cool. They return each year not out of obligation, but because of the joy, community, and inspiration he instilled in them - a testament to the legacy of a lifelong love of music.
So today, we take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for the music, the mentorship, and the many summers made richer and more meaningful by your presence.
On behalf of the Williamsville Central School District, and in partnership with our Music Boosters, please join me in expressing our deepest gratitude and warmest recognition to Mr. Matthew S. Cool for his extraordinary service, unwavering dedication, and the powerful connection through music he has cultivated - a lasting legacy that continues to inspire our Summer of Music program.
- Jaime Pitnell
